The cornea is the clear front dome shaped window of the eye. It provides about 2/3 of the eye's focusing power. It gives us a clear window to look through and is the key to good vision. It also helps shield the rest of the eye from germs, dust and other harmful pollutants.
The corneal service at our centre delivers medical and surgical care to a wide variety of corneal, external eye related diseases and anterior segment eye disorders. The service is managed by a trainedcorneal sub-specialist ophthalmologist.
Ocular Surface Disorders(OSD) are diseases affecting the ocular surface result in non-specific symptoms and can range from a tired or itching eye to diminished vision in severe cases.
Approximately 1.3 million people are blind due to corneal problems. There is a huge gap between the supply and demand of eyes. Donation of a pair of eyes from one donor can save the sight of up-to 4 people in the hands of expert corneal surgeons. Eye donation can be done by any person irrespective of their caste, religion or age. Spectacle wearers, diabetic and hypertensive patients or patients who have undergone simple eye surgeries (cataract) can also donate.
Let someone see through your eyes what you have seen your whole life, Let your eyes LIVE even after your DEATH. Before life, blood donation; After life Eye donation;

Diabetic retinopathy is the most common diabetic eye disease. It occurs when blood vessels in the retina change and become damaged or new abnormal blood vessels grow on the surface of the retina. People with diabetic retinopathy usually do not notice changes in their vision until the disease progresses to advanced stage. It is very important for people with diabetic retinopathy to see an ophthalmologist every year and maintain a good blood sugar control. If left untreated, the disease can cause irrepairable vision loss. In diabetic retinopathy, it always lies in the early diagnosis of problems, that can be controlled and treated well. Hence we advice periodic eye check ups for the same.
Glaucoma is a disorder caused by increase in Intra Ocular Pressure (IOP). If not treated in time, it may result in irreversible and permanent loss of vision.

All patients coming to the center are screened to detect early cases of glaucoma so that timely treatment could be provided and further progress of the disease can be controlled
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is an eye problem seen in some premature babies. In babies with ROP the blood vessels in the retina have developed abnormally after birth. Most premature babies do not develop any ROP. In premature babies who do develop ROP it is usually mild and goes away by itself, without causing any problems with vision. Retinopathy of prematurity causes blood vessels to grow abnormally in the retina, the light-sensitive nerve tissue that lines the inside back wall of the eye. Infants with more severe ROP may need laser therapy, cryotherapy (a freezing procedure) or, rarely, eye surgery.
It is highly recommended that new born children or at the earliest possible age undergo examination by a Paediatric Ophthalmologist to rule out congenital (from birth) eye disorders. This is even more important for children who were born premature, had delayed milestones, or have a family history of eye disorder
Uveitis or Ocular Inflammation is a condition in which the middle layer of the eye gets inflamed. Uveitis can also lead to inflammation in the adjacent areas, like the retina and vitreous. The basic cause for uveitis is not identified in most cases and may be due to some underlying systemic diseases.
